Wonderful acts of fundraising by ABM’s supporters during Lent
Wonderful ABM fundraisers – Shrove Tuesday pancakes and thousands of palm crosses
Lesley Ririka, member of the Tasmania ABM Committee, and former ABM missionary, writes from Burnie:
The Burnie Women’s Fellowship decided to have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and make it into a fundraiser for ABM. We had over 30 people attend for the pancakes and charged them $5.00 each. We also had a trade table to raise more funds. We were very pleased to raise $293.00 for the day.
Meanwhile, during Lent, ABM supporters from across the Diocese of Adelaide gathered to make palm crosses as a fundraiser for ABM’s Easter Gift. Thanks to three working bees hosted by Holy Innocents Belair, St Andrews Walkerville, and St Chad’s Fullarton, combined with palms made by the St Columba’s Hawthorn group, and some dedicated individual palm cross makers, almost 3,000 palm crosses were made, raising almost $1,500 for the Easter Gift.
The working bee participants were too busy making the palm crosses to take any photos, but everyone enjoyed themselves, each one contributing to the palm cross-making process as they were able – from cutting and cleaning the palm leaves, to making the crosses and counting them into piles, there was a job for everyone. It was also an intergenerational experience with the youngest palm cross maker aged 7 ½ and the oldest 92 years old!
ABM commends all the wonderful ABM supporters who participated in any way with these two parish fundraisers.
