On September 30, 2025, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the central Cebu province in the Philippines.

By 2 Oct 2025, 72 bodies had been recovered from under rubble. 20,000 people have been displaced.

Anglicans in Development’s two partners in the Philippines, IFI-VIMROD and E-CARE, are helping in any way they can. VIMROD yesterday noted difficulties reaching remote communities: ‘There are roads in the northern part of Cebu that are still not passable because of landslides.’ Aftershocks continue: ‘Since people are afraid of earthquakes and aftershocks, many of them are currently residing outside their homes or at evacuation centres.’

VIMROD plans to provide food and other relief to 350 earthquake-affected families in villages in the north of Cebu.

Many have been without aid since the earthquake hit. One resident explained, “So far, we only received bottles of drinking water. There’s no food, no electricity, and no running water. We need food and water,” she said simply.

• Emergency food relief for vulnerable individuals and families ($30 per family per week until they can return home) in 3 communities.
• Basic medicines ($5 per household) to assist with first aid.
• Travel costs for Diocesan Disaster Focal Persons and others who will identify the most affected and assist with logistics and distributions.
