UN Representative Calls for More Support for Myanmar
Myanmar Crisis Highlighted by UN Humanitarian Coordinator on World Humanitarian Day
The interim United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator resident in Myanmar, Mr Ramanathan Balakrishnan, used the occasion of last week’s World Humanitarian Day to draw the world’s attention to the “unrelenting violence that is terrifying communities” in Myanmar. His statement comes at a time when more than a million people are now displaced, and poverty and inflation continue their relentless rise. He also notes that only 17% of the UN Humanitarian Response Plan for 2022 has been funded and urges the international community to do more to help.
