Emergency Appeal for Displaced People Affected by Ongoing Myanmar Crisis
Be the Light of Christ — support vulnerable displaced people during the protracted crisis in Myanmar.
Over the past few years, AID’s partner, the Church of the Province of Myanmar, has been providing emergency food relief and other support to people who have been displaced from their homes through the ongoing humanitarian crisis in that country.
This has been done through the church’s well-organised Disaster Management Committee.
Displacement in this context means loss of homes, loss of livelihoods, and trying to survive in a new place far from home. The church has been responding to these ongoing needs since 2021.
AID has so far sent $127,000 to the Church in Myanmar for earlier stages of this appeal.
Your donations may be used to support:
- Cash for emergency food relief for vulnerable individuals and families ($80 per family per month)
- Cash for tools and materials to carry out basic repairs to a house ($10 per family)
- Basic medicines ($7 per kit per family)
- Grant to rebuild an old business or start a new one ($140 per family)
- The liaison work of Diocesan Disaster Focal Persons and others who locate displaced people in need, link them with parishes who can support them and later help with distributions and data collection ($72 per person per month)
One diocesan Disaster Focal Person said, “because of doing this job, I was able to reach out to them [the displaced people], pray for them, and encourage them. If it wasn’t for this program, I wouldn’t be able to reach them by myself.”
56-year-old Saw Martin and his family of five found themselves living a nightmare when a 60mm weapon crashed into their home, obliterating it in an instant. They had no choice but to abandon their home and make their way to an evacuation centre. Cash support received through the Anglican Church helped them buy food as they sought to rebuild their lives. Saw Martin hopes that one day the world will find peace and no family will have to endure the hardships he and his family have faced.
For this stage of the church’s response, we are seeking to raise $50,000.
Our appeal will support those in most need, regardless of religious affiliation.
AID thanks its donors who have already given generously to this appeal.

PRAYER FOR DISPLACED PEOPLE IN MYANMAR
Almighty and everlasting God,
we pray for all those who have had to abandon their homes because of the protracted crisis in Myanmar
in order to find shelter that is safe.
May they find ongoing relief,
and with that, hope –
hope that soon they will be able to return
to where they belong.
This we ask in the name of him whose own family
had to uproot themselves in order to stay safe,
Jesus Christ our Redeemer.
Amen.
